Try on a Smile, it'll make you feel better!

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

So there's not much of an end in sight yet to this semi lockdown. And it will likely get worse before it gets better but if you have your health, you're still ahead! We have all been reading and watching about the tragedies so its time to make room for the amazing things we tend not to hear about during regular times. There are some amazing, adorable, inspirational stories being posted and they are people just like us, trying to help the world get better, even if its 1 person at a time. It's a beautiful thing! Plus we have been having some nice weather, the earth is improving and refreshing itself. Just take a peek outside, breathe deeply, open your windows, get fresh air in the home. Enjoy the spaces around you obviously within social distancing needs lol.

At our house, we have found some things to keep us occupied without being at each others throats! Let's face it, when you have no escape people can be quite strenuous to be around, no matter how much you love them. What are we doing?? Well...

We assembled our trampoline to get us outside and active

Living room dance parties (made a playlist of our favourite dance songs but also use youtube DJ streams)

  • Netflix & Disney +

  • Incorporated some exercise routines to my daily activities

  • Writing this blog - my next post will be regarding at home hair tips I think

  • Picked up some old hobbies again - like sewing and crochet, I did miss them

  • Of course trying to keep the kids involved with school activities like math, science and reading

  • Nail painting parties

  • Getting creative with our meal planning (takes more time when grocery supplies are limited or rationed)

  • Making homemade breads - I LOVE the smell of bread baking mmmmm - p.s. you dont need a breadmaker or bread flour...I use variations of recipes from Betty Crocker - I busted out my old Betty Crocker cookbook but its all online as well. Also like rustic breads in a cast iron skillet llke this one https://diethood.com/no-knead-skillet-olive-bread/ can be made without the rosemary and olives if preferred. Im going to try an apple pumpkin seed bread today https://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/cinnamon-raisin-walnut-wheat-bread/c1154f02-f9d2-4c11-821c-a778c05f8f1c, using tips at the bottom, subbing apples and bc i have no walnuts I'll use pumpkin seeds

  • Practicing my selective hearing...like when the kids argue :)

  • Building tents and forts

  • Set up video chats for the kids to 'see' their friends that they miss so much

  • Touched up some spots on the walls where there are knicks and marks from the kids playing or us moving stuff - of course only useful if you have leftover paint from the last time you painted - but good time to paint furniture projects or rooms you keep meaning to do

  • Rearranged rooms to freshen things up around the house

  • Laundry and lots of it - no fun but now hydro has lifted time of use pricing for the moment so you don't need to wait til weekends or after 7 which is helpful

  • Decluttering and donating clothes and other items we no longer use or need or simply do not fit - of course donations are stored until they can be accepted again.

  • Reading again

  • Thinking about doing a vlog...it'll be interesting if I do lol, not usually my thing

  • And if you saw my FB post, we resealed and re-caulked our kitchen counters (butcher block) - which I have been putting off because its sanding and oiling and 3 days of curing. Its a real pain in the a** but needed to be done so now it is!

Remember small wins add up and when things are back up and running, you will be thankful you had the time to do them on less of a schedule. This is all assuming you are home and on your lockdown or quarantine.

And if you are still going to work - then make extra time to rest, get all your sleep to keep up your immune system and drink plenty of water to flush out potential illnesses.

Also remember that because there is so much stress right now, some upbeat notes are vital to balancing our minds and mental health. Here are some ideas...search up your own and feel free to share!

Be safe out there!
